St Patricks’ Day Cocktail: Irish Apple

by Pete T Posted March 15th, 2012

For 30 years of his life, St. Patrick brought hope to Ireland by establishing churches and monasteries across the country. The day of his death, March 17, 461 A.D., has since been a day for the Irish to celebrate the saint for converting the pagans to Christianity: essentially driving the snakes (symbolic of evil) from Ireland. Over the centuries the celebration has spread to become a worldwide event. In America, where there are more people of Irish descent than in Ireland itself, St. Patrick’s Day has become a cultural icon and across the world Irish and non-Irish alike join the party

Irish Apple – It tastes super sweet, just like finding that pot o’ gold at the end of the rainbow:

1 part Jameson® Irish Whiskey,
1½ parts Hiram Walker® Sour Apple Schnapps,
5 parts Ginger Ale. Serve over ice in tall glass, and garnish with a lime wedge.

Barefoot’s Drink of The Week: Tequila Sunrise

by Pete T Posted March 8th, 2012

This Mexican-style cocktail gets its name for the way the dense grenadine syrup sinks and then rises through the tequila and orange juice mixture creating the colors of a sunrise. Serve this popular beverage at your Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Ingredients2 ounces gold tequila
4 ounces fresh orange juice
3/4 ounce grenadine

DirectionsPlace ice in glass so it is half full. Add tequila followed by the fresh orange juice.
Put a flat handled spoon into the glass. Add the grenadine quickly, allowing it run down the back side of the spoon so it sinks to the bottom of the liquid.
Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.

Barefoot’s Drink of the Week: Strawberry Smash

by Pete T Posted March 1st, 2012

Strawberry Smash

This variation on the mojito lets you mix strawberries with your favorite herb such as mint, basil, lemon verbena, cilantro, rosemary or thyme. Be sure to try the drink out before serving it friends to get the amount of herbs dialed in to your taste buds. It’s tasty with the alcohol or without; for a totally non-alcoholic drink, use sparkling water instead of the prosecco.

Ingredients:

3 ripe organic strawberries, hulled and sliced
6 leaves of one fresh herb such as mint, basil, verbena, cilantro OR 1-inch section of fresh rosemary or thyme
1 ounce good white rum like 10 Cane or clean white gin like Bombay Sapphire
1 ounce all-natural sour mix (see note)
2 ounces prosecco

Add the strawberries and your selected herb to a rocks glass. Smash the strawberries and herbs gently with a muddler until the berries are a pulp and the herbs smell strong. Add the rum or gin if using and sour mix to the glass and give it a stir. Fill 3/4 full with ice. Top off with the prosecco. Garnish with a sprig of the herb you used.

Barefoot’s Drink of the Week: Balsamic Martini

by Pete T Posted February 16th, 2012

It may sound more like a salad than a tropical cocktail. . Here’s how to make it and enjoy it at home:

BALSAMIC MARTINI
1 ½ oz (6counts) Vanilla Rum
¾ oz (3counts) Simple Syrup
½ oz (2counts) Strawberry Puree
3 Small Strawberries
4 lime wedges
12-15 Dashes of Aged Balsamic Vinegar
1 Spaghetti Squash
Balsamic Glaze

PREPARATION:
Take three strawberries, make sure they are nicely washed and the stem is removed. Place them in the mixing glass and add a lime wedge and the ¾ oz of simple syrup, 12/15 dashes of Balsamic Vinegar and ½ oz of the home made simple syrup and start muddling. The muddling process is done while you are pressing the lime so the unique flavor of the essential oil, contained in the skin, comes out. Add 1 ½ oz and it is time to fill the shaker with ice. Then, pour the mix into the shaker and start shaking! Strain into a balsamic glaze drizzled martini glass.
